Warning - Bootcamp can seriously damage your wallet!!

Today, we're delighted to be able to feature a testimonial from Kate, who's one of our fabulous regular Bootcampers!

"I enrolled on bootcamp at the end of September 2011 having come back from holiday tipping the scales at well over 10 st and with a very definite muffin top over my jeans - my usual 4 mile runs didn't seem to be having any effect but after the taster week when I could barely walk down the stairs I had already lost 2lb so I was hooked. The weight loss continued over the next 4 weeks when I abstained from coffee, tried eating wheat and potato free but with the amazing effect of losing a further 7 lb.

After a month off to catch up on sleep (5.30 alarms for the 6.15 morning class!) I re-enrolled for another course - this time I was less strict with my diet but still achieved steady weight loss but my shrinking size was having unforeseen consequences - most of my clothes were now too big - with Christmas looming I had lost more than a stone and my party clothes were hanging off me so I reached into the depths of my wardrobe for my black velvet 50's cocktail dress which I wore for my 21st birthday some time ago - pre marriage - pre babies, and more than 21 years ago. Reader, it fits!!

I have since had to replace most of my wardrobe to fit my new size but I can wear my black velvet again and again!!"

See the photographic evidence at www.pyramidfitness.co.uk/assets/Uploads/photo2.JPG

This could be you, too! Sign up for our next taster week in w/b 26 March to try Bootcamp for a week, for free - email us at info@pyramidfitness.co.uk for more information and to reserve a place.

Zumbathon in aid of local charities

On Saturday 3 March, a wonderful team of 10 Zumba instructors led a two-and-a-half hour Zumbathon at Bucks Uni in aid of two fantastic local charities, scannappeal (www.scannappeal.org.uk) and the Thomas Ball Children's Cancer Fund (www.thomasball.org.uk). Around 85 Zumba fanatics enjoyed a great dance workout, and a few lucky winners got their hands on some great prizes in our charity raffle!

We're still adding up the final pennies, but thanks to the support of everyone who attended, we're hopeful of handing over a total of £900 to our chosen causes.

Well done everyone, and thank you!

See a photo at www.pyramidfitness.co.uk/assets/Uploads/Wycombe-20120303-00069.jpg

Wheat-free, dairy-free pancakes

As it's Shrove Tuesday, here's a pancake recipe that's suitable if you're following our Bootcamp nutrition plan, as it's wheat- and dairy-free, so you can tuck in along with everyone else today!

Ingredients:

60g Spelt flour
2 eggs
120ml rice milk
120ml water
pinch salt
1 tsp cinnamon

Method

Heat a little olive or coconut oil in a frying pan.
Beat all ingredients together and pour mixture in to pan to make individual pancakes – enough to cover bottom of pan and not be too thick.
Serve with berries, warm softened fruit or agave nectar for a sweet treat, or for a savoury filling, add roasted vegetables and omit the cinnamon from the batter mix.

And to whet your appetite, here are some Alice made earlier: www.pyramidfitness.co.uk/assets/Uploads/Wycombe-20120221-00027.jpg

It's snow excuse!

My last blog post covered the topic of ‘not having enough time’ to exercise. This week I thought I’d be a bit topical and look at the excuse of the weather – especially with the snowfall we had in the High Wycombe area on Saturday night and with more promised!

Now obviously we don’t want people to be unsafe and trek out unnecessarily, but using the snow, or just the fact that it is too cold, as an excuse not to exercise, is no excuse at all – exercise does warm you up, you know!

If you can’t get out of the house for classes, that's fine (I had to cancel my early and mid morning bootcamps yesterday because of concerns for customers' safety) - but if you can’t get out of the house, then more than likely you have more time because you aren’t going to be doing the other things you usually do either! So it’s a perfect opportunity to fit in some exercise. You don’t have to slog away for hours on end, in fact just a 15-minute workout with the right exercises and at the right intensity is going to be equivalent to many people's hour-long workouts at the gym. So are you really telling me that if you're staying in all day you don’t have 15 minutes spare to exercise?!

You don’t even need any equipment – you can perform exercises using your own body weight such as squats, press ups, lunges, tricep dips, the plank – the list is endless. If you do just 1 minute each of the exercises I’ve just suggested and repeat them twice, you’ve got a good 10-minute work out already.

So what are you waiting for – if you can’t reach your class or gym, then do it at home!

Let me know if you need any help or advice and I can give you a short workout to do.

No time to exercise? I beg to differ!

One of the most common excuses I hear for not being able to exercise is not having time. Now I know modern life can leave us feeling like this – what with working, cooking, being a parent or carer and running a home, time can sometimes be limited for other things. However, we all have the same 24 hours in each day and it’s what you decide to do with those hours that might make the difference between you and the next person who seems to have time to be ‘always working out’.

With just a little bit of organisation you can make time to build an exercise regime to fit in to your lifestyle. You don’t need to join a gym, and you don’t have to spend hours at a time pounding the cardio machines and then not getting results. In fact, if you do the right type of exercise, you can achieve results in just 15 minutes a day (and this can be equivalent to spending around an hour in the gym), with exercises that can be done at home. Just think where you might get that 15 minutes from – how long do you spend watching TV in the evenings? Or surfing the internet, or wasting time on facebook?? I believe that EVERYONE can find 15 minutes in their day to fit in some exercise.

So, look at your day, look at what you are doing and where you could gain that time from. If you are really struggling, then feel free to drop me a line and I’ll help you. I can also give you some pointers for the right kind of exercise to do.

As well the online bootcamp, I will have a brand new range of online workouts coming soon too – The Toned in Ten range. Ten days with 10 minutes a day to get AMAZING results! So keep watching this space.

See you all soon!

Alice Ramcharran
www.pyramidfitness.co.uk
www.thebootcampcookbook.com
Add me as a friend on facebook - www.facebook.com/alice.ramcharran
Follow me on Facebook - www.facebook.com/PyramidHealthandFitness
Follow me on twitter – www.twitter.com/Pyramidfit

Alice's pregnancy blog part 2

Well it’s been a few weeks since I did my first post, so thought I’d update at week 24 with a short note and new picture!

This pic was taken just before heading out to our 2011 Pyramid Health and Fitness Ltd Christmas party. Bump is appearing and everything else is too!!!

The evening was great fun, and I managed to last the night without drinking and some dancing too, although must say my feet are now getting crippled when I wear my high heels!!!!

Been feeling great over the past few weeks, managing to do a lot of walking, some gym visits although no swimming due to itchy scabby rash – not a good look!!! so back in to that in the New Year while I still can!!! As i’ve been told come 3rd trimester the 1st trimester symptoms may hit me again and then some!

Last class is 21 December and although will miss it, looking forward to a break over Christmas, to have a few days off and just relax! and it’s been nice this week actually having a lie in – 8.30am for the past 3 days, unheard of for me, even at the weekends, so guessing must need my sleep!!!!

I shall post again in a few weeks time, when I’m sure there’ll be even more of a change!

16 October (Day 28)

So this is it. Bootcamp is over and I have lost 13lbs in weight and 10 inches – 3” from both bust and hips and 4” from waist!

I am amazed! Not just at my results (am sure it could have been a stone if I’d resisted those jelly beans!) but also at how much I have enjoyed the past month. At the beginning of Bootcamp I was really concerned that I would a) hate it, b) not be able to do it, or c) want to give up half way through, but none of that has happened – quite the reverse actually.

So, what’s next you may ask? Well, I’ve just signed for the next month and have set myself a goal of losing a stone and a half by the end of November. Will then buy myself a gorgeous dress for Christmas.

I can really recommend it. If you are looking for a kick start to losing weight and getting fit then I don’t think you can beat Bootcamp. Why don’t you come along and try it for yourself? You can sign up at www.buckinghamshirebootcamp.com. Go on … do it!!!!

Jo’s Top Tips for Surviving Bootcamp

Over the past month, I have come up with a few ways of getting through the diet.

The first is that I use Green Tea as my crutch – if I have to do anything in the kitchen and there is likely to be something naughty to pick, I make myself a Green Tea. If I’m giving the kids their dinner, I keep a mug of tea firmly at hand and in the evening, if I’m feeling peckish and I’ve eaten all my allotted food, I’ll have a Green Tea. Lifesaver!

Another tip is that I keep sandwich bags and Tupperware on hand for any leftover food. I worked out quite quickly that waste is an issue for me. Before Bootcamp, I would eat up the leftovers so that I didn’t have to throw them away. Now I put them in a sandwich bag or Tupperware and put them in the fridge to either give to someone later or to throw away the following day – which seems easier!

Other than that… it’s just willpower … and the memory of that HIDEOUS ‘before’ photo that have seen me through.

GOOD LUCK!
